AUF statement regarding the failure of the Energy and Water appropriations bill on the U.S. House floor
Tyler Deaton, Senior Advisor at American Unity Fund, released the following statement regarding the failure of the Fiscal Year 2017 Energy and Water appropriations bill on the U.S. House floor today:
“Last night, 43 pro-freedom Republicans voted to ensure that taxpayer dollars would not be used to subsidize government sponsored discrimination against LGBTQ Americans. American Unity Fund was thrilled to see LGBTQ protections advanced along with vital protections for religious liberty. That common sense approach successfully garnered broad bipartisan support until this morning when far left and far right forces chose to torpedo a winning effort for purely political reasons.
As it now stands, millions of LGBTQ Americans in the majority of states can be fired just because of who they are or who they love. Hard-working Americans are suffering and the political games have to stop.
The evidence is clear with last night’s vote and in other recent Congressional actions that there is overwhelming support on both sides of the aisle to solve this problem once and for all. It’s time for Republicans and Democrats to come together to pass comprehensive legislation to guarantee freedom from discrimination for people of faith and gay and transgender people in all 50 states.”
The mission of American Unity Fund, a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, is freedom. We are dedicated to advancing the cause of freedom for LGBTQ Americans by making the conservative case that freedom truly means freedom for everyone.
