Voters in Houston Fail to Uphold the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO)
Tyler Deaton, American Unity Fund’s Senior Advisor released the following statement in response to tonight’s vote on the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO).
“Tonight’s outcome is extremely disappointing. It’s unfortunate Houston will not join San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and El Paso in recognizing that strong protections for gay and transgender citizens lead to a thriving, hard working community and a stronger, more stable economy. Despite this outcome, we will continue our efforts in Houston and in cities and states across the country to win protections for LGBTQ citizens who face discrimination.”
“Our opponents ran a false, ugly campaign filled with distortions and misinformation in an effort to spread fear and conceal the truth. This fight is not over and the momentum continues to build as public opinion reflects a nation in favor of laws protecting LGBTQ Americans against discrimination and treating others according to the Golden Rule.”
